For the BM-27 „Uragan“ multiple rocket launcher,
Strings, voices and live electronics

The Ukrainian composer and performer Roman Grygoriv transforms a fragment of a Russian „Uragan“ rocket – an object designed to kill – into a sound installation and a musical instrument. Its metal body becomes a resonating chamber: a physical testament to war which, whilst it can no longer explode, is capable of speaking.

Performance takes various forms. „Irrenaissance“ is a ritual for „Rocket“ as a string instrument, voices and live electronics, in which the sounds of metal, friction and resonance create a fragile musical landscape poised between destruction and rebirth.

By forcing an instrument of destruction to produce music, the performance explores the possibility of transforming the material reality of war into memory, testimony and, ultimately, hope.

The performance was created in 2023 and has been staged in various forms at different events in Kyiv, London, Copenhagen and Vienna (at the opening of the Vienna Festival on Heldenplatz).

Free admission for anyone holding tickets for another festival production in 2026 and for the festival’s artists.
