GAIA 24. OPERA del MONDO

Austrian premiere (opening)

GAIA 24. OPERA del MONDO‚Äč

Opera Aperta: Roman Grygoriv, Illia Razumeiko (UKR)

A "geo-historical" opera about war and its ecological traces

When the earth yields a rich harvest, be ready for a great war. 6 June 2023 - the demolition of the Ukrainian Kakhovka Dam by the Russian army is considered one of the greatest war and environmental crimes in recent history. But where humankind fails utterly, mother nature unleashes her power and new, living landscapes emerge from the burning earth.

Following the internationally acclaimed play CHORNOBYLDORF (2022), the Ukrainian company Opera Aperta is staging a multimedia opera dystopia about the rebellion of nature against the destructive power of mankind. Can we still hear what Gaia, Mother Earth, has to say to us?
